Doug Newland, Outreach and Leadership Development Pastor at Northside Christian Church in New Albany, In., which sits across the Ohio River from Louisville, Ky., spoke on behalf of the group, said they went to Boone, N.C., through Crossroads Missions to help out in the Helene recovery.

And this week there's 120 people and there are so many that they made arrangements for our group to stay here at the Methodist Church, Newland said, referencing First United Methodist Church in Mountain City.

"We're doing drywall work and hanging some doors and insulations [and] framing," Newland said. "We're not pros, we're just willing to help where help is needed."
