It has been said that “Dog is man’s best friend.â€
Statistics show that in 2025 the average American will spend between $1,400 and $4,300 caring for a single furry friend. I suppose in our culture today most dog owners do consider their pooch as a valued family member. Some keep them around for security purposes and others for emotional support.
I know a lady whose dog can sense when she is going to suffer a seizure, and it nudges her to a safe place before she falls. Dogs are special gifts to humanity.
There is a story in the Bible about a rich man who fared sumptuously every day. He wore the latest designer clothing and drove the most expensive car on the showroom floor. He lived on the wealthy side of town in a gated community.
The only thing missing in the rich man’s opulent lifestyle was the presence of GOD. Somehow a truly indigent beggar had made his way to man’s stately mansion and lay helpless and hungry just outside the door. Bleeding sores covered the poor man’s body and no one in the house offered to notify emergency medical services or offer him a sandwich and glass of water.
But dogs came to his side and silently comforted him. They soothed his tired and itching body by licking the sores. They cuddled near his dying frame to provide warmth from the chilly night.
For a moment think of that three-letter word DOG. Read it in reverse. We have the name GOD. Regardless of your status in life God is with you.
God will be your constant companion in all of life’s trials. God will never abandon you. He invites us to draw near. All we need to do is answer the invitation. Ps. Thank you God for puppies. Amen
