My brother in law, James Hagy, went to heaven a year ago. He was the pastor where I was leading worship.
While I was singing he would often say aloud, “Sing it Brina.†He was the only one in the church that would call me “Brina.†The others knew me as Sabrina or Singing Sabrina.
When Jimmy would say “Sing it Brina,†I knew he thought I was doing a good job. He made it personal. He was family.
I also thought of my brother that had gone on to Heaven. He thought I was the greatest most anointed singer ever born. He believed in my God-given abilities and wanted the whole world to hear me sing and play the piano. To him I was “Brina Buttons.â€
One of my nephews who heard him often call me Brina Buttons came around the corner of the toy aisle where we were shopping calling out loud Brina But-tons! How cute but embarrassing at the same time.
All three of these individuals have gone to Heaven and I no longer hear them calling my name. I miss it very much. I miss the closeness that came from this. Names are important.
When we have babies the first thing we start thinking about before they are born is, what are we going to name him/her. Some people end up using a few names as they can’t decide on just one. Some stick with carrying on a family name.
You know there is a name that is above ALL names and that name is Jesus. You can call on that name 24/7 and He will answer. You don’t have to worry that he might be asleep or that he is too busy or that he doesn’t care or hear you.
The Word of God says that we can call and he will answer. He is as close as the mention of His name. He loves to hear us say His name — Jesus! Those of us who have a relationship with him, you know we are part of the family we might call him, savior, healer, waymaker, protector, provider. You can know Him today.
In Romans 10:9 it says: “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.â€
Jesus would love to have you in the family. He is waiting with open arms to embrace you. Say His name… Jesus!
