The Sullivan County Public Library has five locations to serve the community.
FOR CHILDREN AND TEENS
During the summer our Storytimes change a bit to be more inclusive of other ages and have different activities that follow our Summer Reading theme! Each branch has times for both preschool age children and for elementary age kids. Each Summer Reading time will include a book (which you can count toward your summer reading goal) and an activity. This week’s theme is: Colors Around The World
Mondays: Sullivan Gardens — Pre-K and elementary at 10:30 a.m. Blountville — Pre-K at 10:30 a.m.
Tuesdays: Thomas Memorial (Bluff City) — Pre-K at 10:45 a.m. and elementary at 1:30 p.m.
Wednesdays: Bloomingdale — Pre-K and elementary at 10:30 a.m.
Thursdays: Colonial Heights — Pre-K and elementary at 9:30 a.m.
Fridays: Blountville — Pre-K at 10:30 a.m. and elementary at 11:15 a.m.
Mondays at 10 a.m. — Sing and Play Storytime for ages 0-2 at the Blountville branch.
Monday at 11 a.m. — Make a Fairy House at the Bloomingdale branch. This craft is open to preschool and elementary age children. Please call 423-288-1310 before coming to make sure space remains.
Tuesday at 3 p.m. — Read to a Therapy Dog at the Colonial Heights branch. Bring your child to read to JB or Jackson the therapy dogs. Reading to a good listener like a therapy dog, builds confidence and helps reading feel less like a chore and more like fun for those struggling with the skill. Call 423-239-1100 to schedule an appointment at least one day ahead.
Tuesdays at 4 p.m. — Read to Therapy Dog Annie at the Blountville branch. RSVP is required by the Saturday before the day you wish to read. Call or visit our Blountville branch to secure your appointment.
Thursday at 3:30 p.m. — Kids’ Chess Club at the Bloomingdale library. This is a weekly event for elementary and middle school age kids. No reservations required.
Thursday at 5 p.m. — Hand-loom Weaving for Teens and Adults at the Sullivan Gardens branch. Looms and yarn will be provided. No registration required.
Fridays at 2 p.m. — Graphic Novel Book Club with Silk at the Blountville branch. If you’re a kid that loves graphic novels, or you’re wanting to try something new, this club is for you. For ages 8-13. This week’s book is “Jukebox†by Nidhi Chanani. Also available through Zoom. Please call the library at 423-279-2714 to request an invite.
Saturday, July 26, at 11 a.m. — Family Fun with Nancy and Family Craft: Seashell Paint Pallet. We’ll read books about the sea and seashells with Ms. Nancy and then stay to make our craft! Online registration is closed for this event, but you may still be able to register by July 21 by calling 423-279-2714.
EVENTS FOR ALL AGES
Wednesdays at 3:30 p.m. — Garden Club with Tyler at the Blountville branch. Open to growing enthusiasts of all ages. No registration required.
Friday at 4 p.m. — All Ages American Sign Language at the Sullivan Gardens branch. We will be using our online resource, Transparent Language, to go over the ASL alphabet and common signs and phrases. No registration required.
Friday at 10:30 a.m. — Making Mats and Pillows for the Homeless with Carolyn Miller at the Colonial Heights branch.
Friday, Aug. 1, from 4-7 p.m. — Summer Reading Finale Party at Camp Placid. We’ll have a hotdog dinner, fishing, activities and tons of fun and awards! Please RSVP by July 25 in person, by phone to your local branch or online. Must have participated in the Summer Reading Program to attend.

Geri-Fit is offered at the Blountville branch on Mondays and Thursdays at 10 a.m. and on Saturdays at Thomas Memorial at 10 a.m.
Chair Yoga is offered at Colonial Heights on Mondays and Wednesdays at 9 a.m. Chair Yoga is also available on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10 a.m. at the Bluff City (Thomas Memorial) branch. Blountville offers Chair Yoga at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesdays.
Tuesdays at 6 p.m. — Zumba! at the Blountville branch. You can also Zumba on Zoom! Just call by the Monday before class to receive a Zoom Link
Wednesdays from 1-3 p.m. at the Blountville branch — Knit and Crochet Group. All skill levels are welcome as we share techniques and fellowship.

Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. — The Plant Dr. Is In at the Bloomingdale branch. Have a sick plant? Not sure what to do? Bring your plant in for advice to help it improve and grow.
Saturday, July 26, at 11 a.m. — Tech Tools: Proofreading and Editing with ChatGPT. Please RSVP in person, by phone or online by July 22.
Monday, July 28, at 5 p.m. — After-Hours Mystery Book Club at the Sullivan Gardens branch. Our first book will be “The Thursday Murder Club†by Richard Osman.
Monday, July 28, at 5:30 p.m. — Book Club at the Colonial Heights branch. This month’s book is “The Last Beekeeper†by Julie Carrish Dalton.
Monday, Aug. 4, at 6 p.m. — Wooden Fruit Slice Craft at the Blountville branch. Please RSVP by July 28.
