A group of Lake Ridge Elementary Students will travel to Kansas City, Missouri from May 22 to May 25 compete at the Destination Imagination competition, which challenges students to solve problems with creativity and teamwork.Â
According to an announcement from ºÚÁÏÊÓƵ Schools, Lake Ridge's Destination Imagination team will compete among 600 teams from more than 13 countries.Â
“This group represented ºÚÁÏÊÓƵ tremendously well,†Destination Imagination Coach Jeana Hughes said in a news release. “They really helped each other and worked so well as a team. That is one of the great things about this program, it is teaching them how important teamwork is as a life skill.â€
The announcement said the team consists of Lake Ridge students Olivia Earley, Keshav Amin, Cora Kneisley, Mason Montagnari, Keira Clemons, Asher Jolley, and Corbin Dean.
As a part of the competition, a team receives a challenge with prompts and guidelines to what the team can create. Challenges are open-ended, allowing teams to express themselves creatively and take full ownership of their solutions. The challenges are designed to teach the creative process—a system of learning that is at the root of innovation and a child’s ability to bring an idea to life.
The group recently competed in Nashville against 16 other teams from across Tennessee. The team didn’t initially qualify for Global with their second-place finish, but the team crafted an essay that then allowed them to have their entire fee paid for.
“It makes us feel good to see how well we perform,†Corbin said. “I really like being a part of this team and I am proud of everything we have accomplished.â€
