Vickie Marie Rutledge, age unavailable, was indicted by a Lee County grand jury April 7 on one felony count of embezzlement for a series of alleged incidents between Dec. 11, 2014 to April 27, 2020.

The indictment stemmed from a Virginia State Police investigation. The Scott County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s office has been appointed as special prosecutor for the case.

Rutledge, a grants and accounts manager with the Mountain Empire Community College Foundation, has been placed on administrative leave from that position.

“Mountain Empire Community College is aware of criminal charges filed against a staff member, who has been placed on administrative leave pending further investigation,� college officials said in a statement released Thursday. “MECC and the MECC Foundation remain committed to ensuring the financial safety and security of our students, donors, and the community.�
