ROGERSVILLE — The Hawkins County Commission voted to approve a resolution it tabled at its last meeting concerning the rules of order.
The resolution updated the commission’s rules of order to include housekeeping edits and added new sections based on state law. The original version also included controversial rules, including one on disruptive behavior that would have made handclapping a misdemeanor.
At the last meeting, the rules were amended to remove a clause about disruptive behavior and replace it with state law, as well as removing a section about limiting the number of speakers on a topic.
The resolution was tabled at the November meeting and came back before the commission at its regularly scheduled meeting Monday.
Two more amendments were made, one to correct language and grammatical errors, which passed unanimously. The other made it to where appointments to the following committees had to be approved by resolution: airport, budget, education, industrial, personnel, public safety, public buildings, road and solid waste. It passed with 13 yes votes and one abstained vote from District One Commissioner John Gibson.
The resolution passed with 10 yes votes and four no votes from Gibson, District Three Commissioner Danny Alvis, District Four Commissioner Josh Gilliam and District One Commissioner Syble Vaughn Trent.
