ROGERSVILLE — With an unanimous “aye†the final meeting of Jim Sells as Mayor of Rogersville ended.
The Board of Mayor and Alderman held the last meeting of the term, making decisions on the budget Monday night.
The Mayor Jim Sells Board Room was full, with more people standing in the hallway to witness his last meeting and the swearing in of Mayor-elect John Metz.
It was also Aldermen Eloise Edwards and Sonda Price’s last meeting.
“I want to say what an honor it has been to serve just a little bit of piece of history with you,†Alderman Todd Biggs said. “And how proud I am of you, the time you served in this town.â€
He also thanked Edwards and Price for serving on the board.
“I want to thank everybody,†Sells said to the board.
He thanked everyone for coming out.
“I hate leaving but it’s time,†Sells said. “Again I’d like to thank everybody . . . and if I can ever do anything to help the town or anybody here, don’t hesitate to call.â€
Sells served as Rogersville mayor for 48 years.
Swearing in
State Rep. Gary Hicks swore John Metz in as mayor, and Todd Biggs, Brock Gladson, Danny Brooks, Andrew Poe, Charlie Gibson and Brady Forgety as aldermen.
Metz won the mayoral race with 65.58% of the votes. He previously told the Times News that after listening to the voters, he hopes to bring change, fairness and openness during his term.
Brady Forgety won the majority of votes for the alderman, making him vice mayor.
Biggs, Gladson and Brooks ran as incumbents with it being Biggs and Gladson’s second term, and Brooks’ first full term as alderman.
