The project began in April with the intersection closing after the Bristol Motor Speedway Spring Race.

In April, Ambre Torbett, Sullivan County’s economic and community development director, said the $1.4 million project was funded by a Tennessee Department of Transportation Multimodal Access Grant, which covered 95% of the cost. Sullivan County contributed the other 5%.

The project installed new crosswalks, sidewalks and a retaining wall that was previously breaking down.

The Master Gardeners Club is expected to landscape the roundabout’s center island with native perennial following approval from the Blountville Community Development Board and county commission.

Torbett said a welcome sign may also be added in the future.

The county will host a ribbon cutting ceremony at 1:30 p.m. Friday for the new roundabout ahead of the July 4th parade.
