SURGOINSVILLE — The Surgoinsville Board of Mayor and Alderman passed a final reading of an ordinance on Monday to repeal and replace a section of municipal code for the beer board to have three members.
The members, who are current members now, are Mayor Merrell Graham, Alderman Warren Bishop and Christopher Janosik.
Members of the beer board serve without compensation, according to the ordinance, and they serve three-year terms.
The vote to pass the final reading was unanimous, with Alderman Kaley Mierek the only one not present.
Other business
The BMA approved a $350 donation and corresponding budget amendment for an upcoming summer camp at Surgoinsville United Methodist Church.
Part of the donation, $100, will be used for morning worship sponsor. The remaining will be used for lunch sponsorship.
The BMA unanimously voted to declare a Husqvarna Chainsaw 141 as surplus. Maintenance Manager Donnie Morrison said it was not operational.
“We’ve actually not used that saw for several years,†Morrison said.
The board then voted to allow Morrison to buy two front tires for the brush truck, for the amount of $688.
Before the meeting ended, City Recorder Megan Gentry reminded the board that there is a BMA meeting at 5:30 p.m., Monday, May 19. This is to potentially pass the first reading of the fiscal 2025-26 budget for the 12 months started July 1.
