It is the time of the year when the rhododendrons are at their peak bloom. It is the reason the Cloudland Gardens have been opened to the public even though the damage caused by Hurricane Helene remains to be completely cleared. It is also the reason for Rhododendron Festivals to be celebrated on both the Tennessee and North Carolina sides of the mountain.

In his latest monthly report to the Elizabethton City Council, David Nanny, director of the Elizabethton Parks and Recreation Department, provided some of the details on the work. Nanny said he and his staff have coordinated with several contractors and has also worked with the Federal Emergency Management Agency on reports for Cat Island Park and Edwards Island.
