David “Animal†Trent is the latest driver from Kingsport to win Pure 4 races at multiple tracks this season.
Trent started on the pole and then drove his No. 57 to the win Saturday night at Newport Speedway. Kingsport racers took three of the top four spots on the high-banked 4/10-mile oval.
John Ketron, who has won seven of nine races entered at Newport, charged from an 11th starting position to take the runner-up spot. James Powell from Asheville finished third, one spot ahead of Steven Watts, another Kingsport driver, who won at his hometown track on Friday night.
Trent’s wins come a year after he had a violent wreck at Kingsport and suffered a serious neck injury. Now, he’s on top of his game and a winner against tough competition.
A pair of former Kingsport Speedway champions were winners in twin Late Model features.
Nik Williams, a Kingsport racer in the No. 32 Ford, took the first 40-lap feature with Jacob York in second place. Lee Tissot finished third ahead of Lance Gatlin and Kingsport teenager Hunter Morgan.
York, the Asheville racer in the No. 97 Ford, was the winner in the second race. Morgan raced to second with Williams, Gatlin and Jamie Sutton the remainder of the top five.
North Carolina driver Johnny Reynolds took the Street Stock victory ahead of Chris Tunnell and Erick Ray. Other winners included: Rocky Yates (Mod 4), Joseph McGill (Crown Vic) and Jackson Crawford (Stock 4).
Another racing program is scheduled for Saturday night.
