Keep Kingsport Beautiful presents Beautification Awards
KINGSPORT — Keep Kingsport Beautiful presented the August Beautification Awards at the Kingsport Board of Mayor and Aldermen meeting Tuesday night. Sponsored by Boehm Landscaping, the awards recognize homeowners, businesses and churches in Kingsport that work to maintain and beautify their properties. Residential winners for August were Patricia Meade, 1545 Warpath Drive; Dana Warner, 4220 Roderick Court; Bryan and Casey Johnson, 1020 Sussex Drive; Gary and Laurel McKinney, 2232 Hermitage Drive; David and Sally Oaks, 1228 Watauga St.; and Todd Meade and Kristian Hefner, 2301 Kings Bay Drive. The business winner for August was Cornucopia, 205 Broad St. And the church winner for August was Crossroads Methodist Church, 200 Bays Cove Trail. Norton offices closed Sept. 1 for Labor Day holiday
NORTON, Virginia — Norton city offices will be closed Monday, Sept. 1, in observance of the Labor Day holiday. Regular residential and commercial garbage routes will be picked up on a regular schedule on Sept. 1. Residents are asked to have garbage out by 8 a.m. Recycling will be picked up on Tuesday, Sept. 2.
Watauga Association of Genealogists to meet on Sept. 2
JOHNSON CITY — The Watauga Association of Genealogists will hold their monthly meeting at the ºÚÁÏÊÓÆµ Public Library and online via Zoom on Tuesday, Sept. 2, at 6:30 p.m. The Zoom link can be found on the first page of the WAGS website at . Guest speaker Frank Collins is a retired program manager/statistician for the U.S. Census Bureau and for RTI International. Collins’ presentation will show how the earliest deeds from Jonesborough and the 1796 Plan of Jonesborough fit over modern maps and satellite images using Google Earth and will briefly talk about how the process is done. He will also use current satellite maps to show how structures in Jonesborough have changed over time. The meeting is free and open to all.
Kingsport Senior Center to host Power of Attorney Clinic
KINGSPORT — The Kingsport Senior Center will host a special Power of Attorney Clinic next month to help local seniors protect their finances and plan for the future. The clinic is scheduled to take place Thursday, Sept. 18, from 2-4 p.m. at the Kingsport Senior Center, 1200 E. Center St. Legal Aid of East Tennessee — an organization that provides legal services free of charge to qualifying individuals — will host the clinic. Preregistration is required by Sept. 4 and can be done by calling Legal Aid of East Tennessee at 423-928-8311. The clinic is free and open to any Kingsport Senior Center member. Attendees will complete the necessary legal forms with the guidance of an attorney on site.
