BRISTOL, Tenn. — A speaker on the intersection of artificial intelligence and Christianity is coming to the Tri-Cities.
King University’s Institute for Faith & Culture’s spring series called “Think on These Things†welcomes executive producer and host of Microsoft Research Podcast Gretchen Huizinga, Ph.D., to Bristol this month.
Huizinga’s background of teaching, media production and research informs her focus on incorporating Christian ethical principles into the development of AI, artificial intelligence.
In addition to her work with the podcast, she serves as a research fellow with AI and Faith, an organization that seeks to bring the values of the world’s major religions into the emerging debate on the development of AI and related technologies.
Interested guests have two opportunities to hear from Huizinga. On Monday, April 7, she will present “To GPT or Not to GPT?†at 9:15 a.m. in King’s Memorial Chapel.
That evening she will offer “From Ethical AI to Righteous AI: Can AI be Good?†at 7 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Bristol, Virginia. Both events are open to the public and free of charge.
“As we all grapple with the rapidly expanding influence of AI and evaluate its current and future effects, we’re glad to have Dr. Huizinga’s real-time experience with Microsoft, her academic background and her well-rounded perspective to guide our discussions,†said Martin Dotterweich, Ph.D., director of the IFC.
Huizinga holds a bachelor of arts in English, master’s degrees in mass communication and learning sciences and Human Development and earned her doctorate in education from the University of Washington with a dissertation on the Christian voice in AI ethics.
