KINGSPORT — Cody Webb, who is awaiting trial for first-degree murder in the death of a 4-year-old girl, appeared in court via Zoom on Tuesday for a hearing to determine whether his bond in that case should be revoked following new criminal charges.
The state filed a motion to revoke Webb’s $250,000 bond, which he posted in 2019, after he was charged in August 2024 with retaliation for past actions for allegedly threatening violence against a Kingsport police officer.
During Tuesday’s hearing, Webb’s attorney, Bryan Delius, told Judge William Rogers that Webb has been in jail since the new arrest and does not currently have legal representation for the two new retaliation charges.
Webb was then given a form to complete listing his income and financial situation, which the judge used to determine that he qualified for a public defender.
Webb told the court he did not want a public defender and instead asked whether his current attorneys, who represent him in the murder case, could also represent him on the new charges.
Judge Rogers advised Webb to speak directly with his attorneys to determine whether they would take on the additional charges.
Webb is charged with first-degree murder, aggravated child abuse, child abuse/neglect and tampering with evidence in the 2018 death of Addyson Cain in Colonial Heights.
He was re-arrested in August 2024 after allegedly leaving a series of threatening voicemails on administrative phone lines at the Kingsport Police Department. The messages were reportedly directed at Lt. Justin McConnell.
Webb's next court date is 9 a.m. on Aug. 8, when Judge Rogers will hear new motions.
